While originally enrolling in a different bachelor’s degree at IE University, when the PLE program was introduced, he took a brave leap of faith.

I recently had the pleasure of talking with Javier Goméz, a second-year Politics, Law and Economics (PLE) student studying at the Segovia campus. I was particularly interested in talking with him due to his intriguing time so far at IE University. While originally enrolling in a different bachelor’s degree at IE University, when the PLE program was introduced, he took a brave leap of faith and changed degrees. Javier then became one of the first students to study the PLE program. I got together with him to discuss the program:

Why did you choose to study Politics, Law and Economics (PLE)?

First of all, I really enjoy looking at the world from a  humanistic perspective. When I saw the program, I instantly loved it as it offered exactly this. Throughout my life, I have always wanted to understand how the world works. For me, looking at the world from the three different perspectives offered on the program (politics, law and economics) was really interesting and I believe it will help me to understand the many complex problems seen across the globe.

How has your experience been at the campus in Segovia?

The campus in Segovia offers a lot of diversity and it’s a great place to study and enjoy the city from. I love being able to make the most of all that the Segovia Campus has to offer. It really is amazing.

How has your PLE program gone so far? Has it been challenging and/or rewarding?

I think it has gone pretty well. It is definitely challenging, but I like it. When I am studying something I enjoy, I have no trouble with getting stuck in. As I said, PLE offers a structure based on three different perspectives. I am currently working in the investments sector while I study, as well as looking for a new job as an analyst and a writer. For these reasons, I really appreciate all that IE University offers in helping me to secure my dream jobs.

What do you think of the professors?

The quality of the professors at IE University is very high. They are all experts in their own fields and they are very good teachers. I have quickly come to appreciate the excellence demonstrated by the professors on the LLB team.

Who would you recommend this program to?

I would say PLE is an excellent fit for anyone with an inquisitive and curious mind. It is perfect for students who can both ask a lot of questions, and answer them. If the way in which the world operates fascinates you, then this is the ideal program for you. As the program is interdisciplinary, it allows you to gain a vast amount of knowledge from a range of different fields. In no time you will be able to solve all different types of problems which may come your way.

If you had to define PLE with one word, what would it be and why?

I would describe PLE as holistic as it covers so many different ways of thinking. All thought processes are different: whether focusing on the end, the economic, the legal, or the political, they all require different mindsets. By having this understanding of different thought processes, we are then able to focus on the functions of the world through the lenses of these specific field paradigms.

Javi is an excellent example of the ideal PLE  candidate. He demonstrates a clear interest in his studies and knows exactly what his aims are in life. He has even begun to apply his knowledge from the PLE course to the real world which has helped him to secure and hold positions in an impressive range of working environments. When Javi completes the PLE program, he will undoubtedly leave equipped with everything he needs to continue his journey. This journey, which is already being mapped out, will undoubtedly be long and successful.
