From uni to Kroll: How José Luis built a career as a real estate analyst

José Luis carved out a unique path, blending business and politics with hands-on learning to land a demanding role at Kroll. While his career keeps him on his toes, he balances the fast-paced world of real estate with his love for sailing and music.

Here at IE University, we love to keep in touch with our alumni. We’re always curious to see where their journeys take them—especially when they land at top global firms. Meet José Luis Martín, whose passion for politics and business led him to real estate analysis at Kroll, one of the biggest names in the industry. For anyone considering a career as a real estate analyst, José Luis’s story is proof that the right education and work-life balance can open major doors.

He chose a case-based education

When it came time to choose a university, José Luis wanted something different. He was looking for an education that would set him apart by helping him build a unique professional profile. IE University checked all the boxes. The Dual Degree in Business Administration & International Relations gave him the perfect mix of analytical skills and business acumen—and more importantly, access to a faculty of seasoned professionals who brought real-world expertise into the classroom.

It was this practical, case-based approach that challenged him to think critically and problem-solve in a way that more traditional education often lacks.

He seized every opportunity he got

José Luis knew that if he wanted to get ahead, he had to gain real-world experience early. That’s why he took full advantage of IE University’s professional connections and hands-on learning opportunities. He believes the competitive edge he developed during his studies paid off—helping him land a role at Kroll, where he now works as a real estate analyst.

The job is demanding, but thanks to the skills he honed at IE, he was ready. “The teamwork, the case studies, the holistic approach to problem-solving—it all prepared me for this,” he shares. His ability to collaborate, adapt and communicate effectively help him build a successful career.

And he found balance in the high-paced career of a real estate analyst

With such a high-intensity job, José Luis knows the importance of unwinding. His go-to escape? The ocean. An avid sailor, he first embraced the sport through the IE Sailing Club and still finds time to hit the water whenever he can. If he’s not sailing, you’ll likely find him running along the beach or playing piano.

At the end of the day, José Luis embodies what it means to be part of the IE Community—someone who chases opportunities, embraces challenges and balances ambition with personal passions.

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
