Introducing the Bachelor in Applied Mathematics Advisory Board

In preparation for the new Bachelor in Applied Mathematics program, starting in September 2023, IE School of Science & Technology has appointed an Advisory Board composed of prominent mathematicians from a variety of backgrounds. They will support the School to oversee various aspects related to the study programs, research, and strategy in this field, ensuring that students benefit from a well-rounded and up-to-date curriculum.

Representing a range of internationally renowned academic institutions, companies and research institutes, including the University of Cambridge, Grupo Santander, Copenhagen Business School and Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas (ICMAT), the board members have been carefully selected for their expertise and relevant experience. On May 19, 2023, they held their inaugural meeting at IE University to discuss various topics including program design, internships for undergraduates, and research, among others.

The Bachelor in Applied Mathematics will benefit frmo personalized guidance throughout their studies. Regular meetings with the students’ advisor, David Gómez-Ullate, and with the program’s Academic Director, Irene Alda, will enable high quality standards and an excellent student experience.

How will the Bachelor in Applied Mathematics Advisory Board benefit students?

Besides ensuring high-quality standards by overseeing the structure and design of the program and fluent communication with students, the advisory board will benefit students across the whole IE School of Science & Technology, in several other ways. An important part of the board’s work is to help identify and promote professional opportunities for students. This will foster a collaborative environment and will enable IE School of Science & Technology to offer both research and industry internship opportunities to its students.

In addition to internship opportunities, there are plans to organize specific seminars for 1^st and 2nd-year students and annual research-related activities for 3^rd and 4th-year students led by assistant professor Dae-Jin Lee. This will form part of an extensive program of extracurricular activities that IE University offers its students.
