Last week, members of the IE Model United Nations Club had the opportunity to participate in the Universidad Complutense Model United Nations 2016. All of our participants in this MUN did a great job representing IE University, and were able to walk away from the conference with a strong sense of accomplishment.

MUN Conference 2016

Our delegates had the opportunity to take part in this competition as representatives of states in Joint Crisis, European Commission, Euro Group, Security Council, Peacekeeping Operations, and UN Women committees. The IEU team was comprised of Renata Villafuerte (Co-Chair of the UN Women Committee), Carlota Marcoartu (Chair of the Peacekeeping Operations Committee), and 13 students who participated as delegates.

For the majority of IEU students, this MUN has been their first of many more to come. Despite their lack of experience, four IEU students walked away last Friday with more than just the participation diploma. The award to Best Delegate from the Euro Commission went to Elizabeth Prieto, and honorable mentions went out to Elena Balrod, who competed in the Euro Group, and Xénia Elena Greenhalgh and Layan Al-sayeh, delegates in the European Commission. We are proud of the achievements of these students, and all IEU students for their hard work and dedication.

Participation in this Model United Nations allowed students to sharpen their debate skills as well as acquire knowledge that will help them in their future careers. This conference has also enhanced their diplomatic abilities and provided them with a better understanding of what the United Nations is truly like. It is a great opportunity for students to put their classroom knowledge into practice and enhance their career profiles.

Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions with us. If you would like to know more about IEU’s Model United Nations team, don’t hesitate to get in touch at university@ie.edu.
