A day in the life of a madrileño

Fondo logo E
Madrid, Spain's capital city is worldwide known for its cultural life, its architecture, the warm people and its sunshine.

Breakfast in Malasaña

We can’t think of a better start to your day than stopping at Ojalá, a charming, modern café in the heart of the Malasaña neighborhood, for breakfast. If the weather is nice and their terrace is out, take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine in the spring and summer months!

Retiro Park and the museum district

Once you’ve finished your café con leche, explore the streets of Fuencarral and Gran Vía on your way to Madrid’s famous Retiro Park. Take your time, and enjoy the stroll. If you continue walking towards Paseo del Prado, you will easily reach the area where some of the most beautiful museums are located. El Prado Museum and Thyssen – Bornemisza hold some of the finest works of Spanish art in the world, and are a must for any art enthusiast. If you’re looking for something modern, walk towards Atocha and you’ll find the magnificent Museo Reina Sofia.

Aperitivos

After a cultural morning, you can grab an aperitivo (appetizer) to tide you over until lunch. The authentic madrileños, or citizens of Madrid, tend to have a glass of wine, a caña (small draft beer), a glass of vermouth, or any soda with a tapa before lunch. If you’re getting hungry, a good place to get a variety of tapas is behind the Westin Palace Hotel, in the Plaza de Jesús.
