Make the most out of summer with exciting recruitment events!
IE University Bachelor in Business Administration student Coral Taylor was selected to participate in the Talent Meets Bertelsmann 2018 event, which was held in Berlin in July. She found out about the event through a Talent & Careers email. Bertelsmann is a media, services and education company with 119,000 employees spread across 50 countries. The company includes broadcaster RTL, publisher Penguin Random House, music company BMG, and Bertelsmann Investments, among others. This is their flagship recruitment event, and it was open to bachelor’s, master’s and MBA students.
The event, centered around data-driven innovations, included a teams’ pitch contest, and Coral’s team was awarded second prize! Now she’s off to Stockholm.
Coral was kind enough to share her experience with us.
What is the Talent Meets Bertelsmann event?
TMB is a huge three-day conference held every year in Berlin that brings together students from around the world to take on different case studies. This year’s conference was focused on data-driven innovations. On the first day, you meet with the participants and complete a creative assignment. On the second day, the hard work starts. You are given five hours to work on a case study, and in the afternoon, you get to pitch your presentation to top management from Bertelsmann and around 200 people, which is daunting but truly an amazing opportunity. The rest of the conference is for networking, coaching and having fun.
How did you find out about this opportunity, and why were you interested in applying?
I actually found out about this event through the email that Talent & Careers sends out every Thursday. I didn’t know much about Bertelsmann but I thought it would be a great way to find out more. I’ve always thought that sometimes it’s good to seek opportunities even if they are a bit intimidating.
What would you highlight about this experience?
Two things: the conference was exceptionally well organized, and it wasn’t only based on hard work but on having fun!
What do you think are the benefits of participating in events like this?
Being inspired, learning from others, challenging yourself, and getting out of your comfort zone! The prize for the pitch contest winners included a trip to one of the international cities where Bertelsmann’s subsidiary offices are located. My group won second prize, and in September the ten of us will meet again in Stockholm. After participating in the conference, you become part of the TMB alumni network where they invite you to future events and opportunities.
What tips would you give to other students interested in applying/participating next year?
Be yourself and be enthusiastic.
