I’m Luis Perez-Goicoechea Lemaigre-Dubreuil, a recent Bachelor in Business Administration graduate. With a natural inclination towards finance and intrigue in the pharmaceutical industry, my academic journey took an exciting turn during my final year at IE University. It was then that I embarked on an internship journey with Roche, one of the industry’s giants. This experience not only shaped my professional aspirations but also provided a platform where academic theories met real-world applications. Today, as a full-time Finance Enterprise Partner, I look back with immense gratitude for the opportunities, challenges and learning moments IE University introduced into my life. They prepared me not just for a career, but for a mission to make a difference in the world of pharmaceuticals.
How did the internship at Roche capture your interest?
My introduction to the internship at Roche came through my aunt, a seasoned professional in the pharmaceutical sector. She spoke highly of the “Deja tu huella” (Make Your Mark) program, which immediately captured my attention. The stellar reputation of Roche and the multifaceted approach of the program drew me in. It combined hands-on technical training, invaluable industry knowledge, and collaborative experiences, resonating perfectly with my professional goals. The bonus of being able to undertake a pharmaceutical master’s degree during my internship was an invaluable advantage, deepening my journey into the world of pharmaceuticals.
Can you share the key highlights and responsibilities of your internship at Roche?
During my time at Roche, my primary tasks revolved around deep-diving into financial trends, predicting fiscal trajectories, and ensuring optimal resource distribution. But beyond these tasks, the highlights of my internship truly defined the experience. Roche’s environment was not only about responsibilities; it was also about growth and discovery. The nurturing ambience allowed me to realize my potential, as I was constantly surrounded by industry veterans who provided mentorship and shared their wisdom. Collaborating with diverse teams, engaging in brainstorming sessions, and receiving constructive feedback were pivotal moments that significantly broadened my perspective. The hands-on experience combined with these highlights enriched my understanding of the industry and underscored the importance of practical learning in a supportive setting.
Describe your typical workday as a Finance Enterprise Partner Trainee.
As a Finance Enterprise Partner (FEP) trainee, every day brings a fresh set of challenges and learnings. My role frequently pivots around the month-end financial wrap-ups, during which I actively assist in crafting reports, streamlining data, and gleaning actionable insights from our comprehensive financial evaluations. In tandem with these tasks, I often find myself diving into on-the-spot analyses to address specific needs raised by our marketing, medical or sales divisions. Such endeavors play a pivotal role in bolstering our financial health and facilitating informed decision-making. I’ve also had the opportunity to contribute to global initiatives with co-workers across various Roche branches. This not only enriches my understanding of finance, but also offers a panoramic view of the global pharmaceutical landscape.
