IE University Cements Career-Centric Focus With the Launch of Six Trailblazing Programs

The last year has seen the world of work profoundly transformed by emerging technologies, with artificial intelligence at the forefront. Workplace cultures are evolving at the speed of light as AI-powered advancements become more commonplace. At the same time, organizational priorities are shifting beyond the bottom line to include ethical, societal and environmental concerns that only grow more pressing every day.

IE University has always strived to keep pace with the changes in the professional landscape. Entrepreneurship, innovation and the humanities have always been among the most influential forces driving our programs. However, digital, leadership, creative, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills are in growing demand, urgently calling for a new approach to higher education to meet these changing needs.

Against this backdrop, IE University has launched several new bachelor’s and dual degree programs geared to bridge the skills gap. With these programs, our students are guaranteed to stay ahead in the dynamic job market.

Bachelor in Humanities

The Bachelor in Humanities aims to foster critical thinking in the digital age. Its core philosophy is built around the idea that through understanding the past, we are able to grasp the present and influence the future. Based on the core disciplines of the humanities, the program blends digital and analytical skills to equip students with the hard and soft skills necessary for both career success and positive impact.

This is a full-time four-year program that takes students to stunning Segovia in the first two years. Its immersive curriculum starts off by establishing a solid foundation in the humanities in the first year, where your focus will be on the principles of humanistic inquiry, global history, programming and digital humanities. The second year then offers a deep dive into algorithmic thinking, data processing and the history of art and material culture.

Years three and four take place in Madrid: you’ll learn about everything from philosophy to research methods, marketing fundamentals and NLP-based programming, with curated electives to specialize your focus. Here, you can choose one of two distinct tracks: Arts and Cultural Management, or Advanced Digital Methods and Tools. In the final year, you’ll complete a capstone project, and have the chance to benefit from our partnership with UNESCO and opt into enriching opportunities like an exchange abroad.

Bachelor in Fashion Design

The Bachelor in Fashion Design is a four-year program tailored to appeal to creative individuals who are passionate about the industry and want to contribute to the development of the craft. It delivers a unique fusion of creative expression and technical craftsmanship with sustainability, fashion management expertise, traditional artistry and new technologies. Highly practical in its approach, the program’s study plan puts project-based design studios, garment construction and craft workshops and increasingly complex applied challenges at its center.

The first year allows you to explore the intricacies of body, textile and proportion hands-on. You’ll also study various sustainable materials and techniques, design methodologies, graphic communication and illustration tools, pattern-making and more. These learnings flow seamlessly into your second year, where you’ll start understanding sustainable fashion—including ethical sourcing—as well as fashion design history, photography, videography and styling. In addition, you’ll get into the more business side of the industry via modules in fashion management, production and distribution.

Start thinking bigger in the third year with lessons in large-scale production, industrial patternmaking, sales and merchandising. You’ll also make the choice between taking an exchange semester abroad or diving into your preferred focus area through an Alternative Practice elective, which include specializations in accessory design, costume design and virtual fashion.

In your final year, you’ll start leveraging our global network of industry contacts to kick off your career. Experiment with haute couture and complete your collection for your final project. You’ll also learn more about e-commerce, fashion entrepreneurship, the design of event spaces, brand design and the legal aspects of fashion.

For versatile skill sets

As well as these undergraduate programs, IE University has also introduced four new five-year dual degree programs that offer the best of both worlds:

  • The Dual Degree in Business Administration & Fashion Design is another new program positioned at the intersection of fashion and business. If you have a strong interest in fashion that you would like to combine with a holistic and practical approach to the business world, this could be the program for you.
  • The Dual Degree in Economics & Applied Mathematics offers a deep exploration of the modern global economy through a focus on econometrics, political and behavioral sciences, applied analytics and technology, using applied mathematical concepts to tackle complex real-life challenges.

Upskill for positive impact

All of our new academic programs are designed to boost your capacity for positive impact. At IE University, we pride ourselves on cultivating long-standing connections in each relevant industry. These ongoing conversations with leading employers and recruiters help us keep track of the latest developments in the professional world—a benefit we pass on through our regularly updated programs.

As a result, enrolling in one of these programs means that you’ll not only expand your skill set but also sharpen your competitive edge. They are proof of our commitment to your success and determination to empower future leaders who have the know-how to bring about meaningful change in their fields and in society as a whole.
