Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, law firms have had to cancel Law firm shadowing week, but Cuatrecasas has taken it upon themselves to organize a Virtual Summer Week as an alternative—eight IE University students have had the chance to participate in this initiative.

With a century of professional practice and an excellent reputation, Cuatrecasas is a leading international benchmark for all legal issues in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America. They have 28 offices across various cities in Europe, America, Asia, and Africa, and they advise on Spanish, Portuguese, French, Moroccan, and European Union law.

Ghizlane Laaouej  is a second-year student of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) at the Segovia campus, and was one of the participating students who has shared her insights on the Cuatrecasas Summer Week with us.

What did the Cuatrecasas Summer Program consist of? Why were you interested in this virtual experience?

Initially, I enrolled in the Shadowing Week. However, because of the COVID-19 crisis, it was canceled. I lost hope in being able to have such an experience, but then I received the Summer Program opportunity from Cuatrecasas. I immediately answered the email, and was ready to enjoy the experience.

The program included a formation week, in which we learned about the law firm, its organization, structure, cases, international expansion, and even how to prepare our cases for court.

What would you highlight?

I would highlight the impressive organization and enthusiasm that is put into the program. Everyone has been paying attention since the first minute. We have had an incredible experience meeting the professionals from the law firm and learning about their day-to-day work as lawyers.

What do you think the benefits of participating in experiences like these are?

The benefit of participating in the Summer Program is adaptability. Despite the fact that we haven’t been able to visit the law firm in person, we have had a unique and different experience.

Finally, why are you interested in pursuing a career in this sector?

I thought that this was a great opportunity to get up close to the day-to-day of an international law firm such as Cuatrecasas. I am passionate about law, and I was very motivated to take advantage of the Summer Program. It has allowed me to know what I can expect in my professional future.
