The Bachelor in International Relations is a unique program that prepares a new generation of global professionals to confront the complexity of international affairs in both the public and private sector. We spoke to Daniel Kselman, Academic Director of International Relations at the IE School of Global and Public Affairs, to learn more about this undergraduate program.

Tell us about the IE School of Global and Public Affairs.

The IE School of Global and Public Affairs is a prestigious school dedicated to training international professionals capable of understanding complex global issues and managing real-world organizations. The school’s flagship programs are the Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and the Master’s Degree in International Relations. It also contains rapidly growing dual degree programs with the IE Business School and the IE Law School, and is now home to nearly 400 students from all over the world. Also, the IE School of Global and Public Affairs is a member of the exclusive Association of Professionals Schools of International Affairs (APSIA), a clear indicator of its expertise and prestige.

What can prospective students expect from the Bachelor of International Relations at IE University?

The Bachelor of International Relations at IE University is a truly unique degree. The international job market demands multidisciplinary professionals who can understand how economics, business, law, and politics interact in today’s world. This is precisely the training that we provide our students with.

In this undergraduate program, we integrate different but complementary disciplines to train global experts capable of managing issues and organizations on an international scale. We do so with the unique focus on innovation and entrepreneurship that characterizes all IE programs. Upon graduation, our students are prepared to be leaders within a new generation of international professionals.

What makes this program unique?

The IE University Bachelor in International Relations not only integrates distinct disciplines, but also distinct teaching and learning methodologies. We believe it’s important to teach our students to think critically, but also to develop the necessary soft skills to improve their capacity for organizational leadership, teamwork, and negotiation.

At the IE School of Global and Public Affairs, students learn by hands-on experiences in internships, IEU labs, case studies, simulations, and workshops with experts and practitioners. In addition, they acquire this training in a uniquely international environment: IE is one of the world’s most diverse academic institutions, currently home to students from over 100 different countries!

Gabriel Rodríguez was born and grew up in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas. He speaks English and Spanish fluently, and has basic proficiency in French.

He completed his primary and secondary education in his home city’s Instituto Cumbres de Caracas. An outstanding swimmer, Gabriel was part of the school’s swimming team throughout his primary and secondary education, competing nationally and internationally for over 15 years.

In 2005, he started his undergraduate education at the Universidad Metropolitana in Caracas, where he studied for the next five years, graduating with a Bachelor in Business Administration. He completed a Major in Management and Graduate Specializations in both Marketing and Financial Engineering. During his studies, he took part in internships in the energy sector, working at multinational companies Technip and Andritz Hydro.

After finishing his undergraduate studies, he decided to travel to Paris where he enrolled in the Université Paris-Sorbonne a Cours de Civilisation Française, studying there for almost a year before returning to Venezuela in 2011. He then joined Novartis, a multinational pharmaceutical company as a marketing and sales assistant for the next couple of years.

In 2012, Gabriel began pursuing a Master in Market Research and Consumer Behavior at IE University. In 2013 he graduated from the program and joined the prestigious academic institution as Associate Manager of Business Development. Two years into this new adventure he joined IE University’s Marketing Department as a Marketing Manager. Since then, he has led international marketing for IE University’s undergraduate programs as Senior Marketing Manager, and now as Head of Marketing.

In 2019 Gabriel returned to education to pursue his second master’s degree at IE University in Digital Transformation and Innovation Leadership. He completed the program in July 2020.
