A challenge with purpose
Every year, IE University graduate Ismail Lahlou sets himself a new challenge—something that pushes him to grow beyond his limits. In 2025, that challenge was the UniRaid Alps, an endurance rally designed for students that blends adventure, teamwork, and social purpose.
For Ismail, the race was never about speed—it was about meaning. His goal was to raise awareness and support for people living with diabetes, a cause close to his heart.
“IE taught me that success isn’t just about personal achievement. It’s about creating impact that truly matters.”
That belief guided his decision to take on UniRaid, knowing that every kilometer driven could help improve lives.
Learning beyond the classroom
At IE University, education goes far beyond textbooks and exams. Students are encouraged to take what they learn and put it into action—leading projects, collaborating across disciplines, and finding real-world solutions.
“IE always pushed us to think big—not just in business, but in life. The real learning happens when you dare to do something extraordinary.”
That mindset gave Ismail the confidence to take on one of the most demanding student rallies in the world. The combination of academic rigor and hands-on experience prepared him for uncertainty, teamwork, and pressure.
Leadership and teamwork in action
UniRaid is not a solo race—it’s a test of trust, coordination, and emotional resilience.

“Leadership and teamwork were absolutely essential. IE taught me how to stay calm under pressure, how to trust my team, and how to make decisions together when things got tough.”
Each day brought new challenges: mechanical breakdowns, extreme weather, and sheer exhaustion. These moments tested his ability to lead with empathy and think on his feet.
For Ismail, UniRaid became a living example of IE’s approach to leadership—empowering others, staying grounded under pressure, and turning every obstacle into an opportunity to grow.
Purpose as a driving force
UniRaid’s mission extends far beyond racing. Each edition supports community projects that link adventure with social impact.
This year, Ismail and his teammates partnered with Project Bolus to provide insulin syringes for children in Lebanon living with diabetes, raising funds for more than 1,000 syringes.
“This year’s mission was especially meaningful because Karim, my teammate, is a type one diabetic. UniRaid was never just about crossing the finish line—it was about knowing every challenge we faced translated into real support for others.”
The team also joined forces with AMESIP, contributing to the rebuilding of the Shemsy orphanage in Morocco after the earthquake. These efforts reflect what IE stands for: using knowledge, creativity, and collaboration to make a tangible difference.
Carrying the IE spirit worldwide
IE University’s sponsorship of the Morocco Racing Team went beyond logos and visibility—it was about shared values.
“Seeing the IE logo on our car reminded me that I was representing a global community. It made me proud to belong to a university that truly believes in social responsibility.”
For Ismail, carrying the IE emblem across borders symbolized the sense of purpose and community that connects IE students and alumni around the world.
From lessons to leadership
The rally was as much a test of endurance as it was of character.

“There were moments in the mountains when everything went wrong—engine failures, freezing nights, no light, no help. That’s when I realized how much I had grown thanks to IE.”
The mindset he developed through IE’s experiential learning helped him stay calm, think strategically, and lead with confidence. What began as lessons in classrooms and group projects came alive on the winding mountain roads of UniRaid.
“IE gave me the foundation to think clearly and lead, even when everything seems to fall apart.”
A message for future leaders
His journey is a powerful reminder that leadership starts with curiosity and courage—qualities that lie at the heart of IE University’s philosophy.
When asked what advice he would share with current IE students, Ismail didn’t hesitate:
“Don’t think small. Always go for the bold decision. We’re young—that means we have room to fail and learn. IE gives you the mindset and the network to make things happen. Use it.”
He believes leadership begins the moment you step outside your comfort zone.
“Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Say yes to the projects that scare you a little. That’s where the real growth happens.”

From purpose to action
Ismail Lahlou’s experience shows how IE University helps students turn purpose into progress. UniRaid was more than a rally—it was a testament to how education, leadership, and empathy can create lasting change.
By combining learning with real-world challenges, IE University empowers its students to lead with confidence, resilience, and global vision—wherever their journey takes them.
