We understand the temptation to chill over the summer. But for tomorrow’s top people, the truth is that ambition must be matched with action.
And the Summer School Pre-Tracks program is where young, ambitious minds get going. Students who want to explore career paths and potential opportunities in business, law or design have an opportunity to do just that, without giving up their whole summer.
For just a couple of weeks over the break, the state-of-the-art facilities in our iconic IE Tower become a base for career-focused study, right in the heart of Madrid.
This isn’t just about gaining more knowledge, either. It’s an opportunity for students to sharpen their sense of identity, find their academic direction and take the first steps into their professional futures.
Three tracks, one community
IE University students are as diverse as it comes, so program participants get exposed to different world views and perspectives regardless of which track they go for.
It’s a supportive, international environment where just as much is learned outside the classroom as inside. Teamwork, new cultural perspectives and shared ambition help each student grow as a person.
The academic and practical experiences are top notch, of course. But this is as much about enhancing the critical thinking, collaborative and leadership skills they’ll need in the workplace of tomorrow.
There are three options:
- Pre-Business: An exploration of entrepreneurship, innovation, strategic thinking, leadership, financial literacy and marketing fundamentals. This track imparts a global understanding of business strategy and the demands it places on modern leaders. But also, it provides the confidence and skills to turn ideas into real startups.
- Pre-Law: This one’s a journey through the legal landscape that covers human rights, ethics, legal systems, international law, and debate and advocacy. IE Law School’s Comparative Law methodology means students gain a global overview of civil and common law, but also boost their critical thinking and advocacy skills. Anybody taking this track will clearly understand the inexorable links between law, business and tech.
- Pre-Design:This one’s about developing sketching, storytelling and creative expression skills with a human-centric focus. The track dives into design thinking and the basics of architecture and visual comms, as well as exploring the art of portfolio-building and how to present work memorably so it leaves a lasting impression.
Pre-Design and Pre-Law can be combined with Pre-Business, opening out a broader range of connected subjects. And offering a next-level mix of skills, knowledge and practical experience.

The IE Pre-Tracks program provides a jump-start to careers, but nobody has to miss out on the great summer they wanted.
Madrid has so much going on. Vibrant nightlife, great food from around the world, top museums and historic landmarks. Many of the students who complete the program find themselves wanting to come back once they’re done.
