Last Thursday, IE University officially introduced a new Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems Management with a forum and debate featuring important industry experts.

The event brought together leaders in the field, including the Director of LinkedIn Spain and Portugal Sarah Harmon, IE Technology Professor Enrique Dans, and Dean of the IE School of Human Sciences and Technology Lee Newman, to discuss the future of the field.

During the event, the panel of experts shared insights into the current market conditions and how new technologies and innovations will impact what’s to come. They explained that new trends like big data, mobile technologies, cloud computing, and social media will continue to affect traditional ways of doing business. This will in turn revolutionize and transform industry conditions across the board.

Harmon identified how technological innovation is changing the way we work, stating that “working at home using apps and online platforms and having a great productive day is now a reality.”

An increasing need for industry leaders and experts

Among the many important topics covered, one that was brought up on several occasions was the growing need for professionals able to play key roles in developing this new digital future.

“We need universities to teach people how to develop technologies and drive innovation,” explained Dans. The growing demand for professionals capable of harnessing the power of technology will continue to expand in the upcoming future and there are simply not enough specialists to fill this void.
